these are amongst the best mixes I have heard for a very long time, i think that detroit techno is hard to master as a dj - even if these records have been the tools of your trade for as long as they have been for vince watson - mixing them with such know how and awareness as well as enthusiasm and speed is an absolute pleasure to hear
I already have detroit classics 1 + 2 on my server and will upload the third once i have download it. I also hosted a couple of other mixes of yours, they aren't going anywhere so feel free to spread them using my links. I have no bandwidth limit.
Great mixes, although it's a reminder of the shit state of Techno today.
couldnt disagree with you less.....
I think it is pretty much a fair comment, it is a pile of shite these days, when the majority of these tracks where first out, it was the most futuristic, advanced sounding music to ever hit me and now there are fewer and fewer techno tracks that have ability to do that to me. Do not think it is an age thing or anything like that, I just feel less and less tracks that are released for me really encapsulate what IMO proper techno should sound like, only Fortune 8 at the moment really excites me electronically, I have been finding more and more that old disco re-edits/songs are far more futuristic sounding than what most people release as so called techno.
Yeah, totally. That's why i have been lapping up all the re issues that have come out over tha past few years as i wasn't collecting vinyl back when they were out first time round. Since all the R&S re presses of model 500, kenny larkin, beltram, poindexter, etc etc i've hardly been buying new stuff and the new stuff i have bought has had to be amazing. There is a flood of utter crap coming out these days but then there are some great tracks coming out too, you just have to dig deep in the crates to find em in among all the weaker releases.
Sleeparchive to name one. Completely different sound to the early detroit stuff but to me it is excellent all the same. Also the monolake stuff is still decent as was the early stuff on Chain Reaction. But again, completely different. Also emotion sequence was awesome imo vince
The early stuff was far more melodic, and the production was amazing. You could blame computers i suppose as now every cunt can get a cheap laptop, a copy of reason and knock up something easily. Back then you had to spend serious cash to build up a studio so the lame no talent people were less likely to start blowing all their hard earned cash on studio kit for it to be a fad and to knock up a weak record.
Chapter three is clearly the strongest of the lot, although the competition is fierce. #3 is just amazing, the transition from icon to groove is ... is ... umm ... close to perfection.
This is just beautiful, beyond the senses. End of conversation.
